Alastair Henderson joined Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2010, as a Consultant Urological Surgeon and set up his private practice mainly at the Spire Hospital in Tunbridge Wells later in 2010.
He was an undergraduate at Imperial College and St. Mary’s Hospital, London completing his training in 1996. He completed a three year period of research on prostate cancer in 2003, leading to a PhD degree. His postgraduate training was at Guy’s Hospital London as well as other regional hospitals. This included visits to Seattle where Brachytherapy Prostate treatment was pioneered at the Seattle Prostate Institute and over two years at Guys Hospital learning laser, robotic and laparoscopic surgery for kidney and prostate problems. He is currently the clinical lead for urology at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
Publications
Alastair has published over 50 papers on urinary symptoms, bladder, prostate and testis cancer, hormonal, erectile dysfunction and kidney problems and presented over 50 papers at national and international meetings. He has reviewed papers for 10 international journals and was part of the group that first described template prostate biopsies in the UK and has been delivering this advanced technique since our publication in 2004. He was R&D Lead Clinician for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS trust’s Research Team from 2016-2019.

Teaching
Alastair is a keen teacher being listed as a faculty member at international meetings in minimally invasive surgery, brachytherapy and advanced prostate diagnostic techniques.
He performs proctoring work teaching other consultants how to perform surgery particularly in the areas of biopsy techniques for prostate cancer, brachytherapy and HOLEP laser surgery for enlarged prostate.
He was the Urology Tutor for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust within the Kent Surrey and Sussex Deanery from 2010 to 2017.
In his spare time Alastair enjoys running, and spending time with his wife and two children.
